Good morning everyone! It’s a little messy here as I prepare and get everything ready to prep the kiddos lunch tonight for tomorrow’s first day of school. I started making bento lunches using these Yumbox lunch containers about 5 years ago when my eldest, Kienna was in grade 1. She’s the pickier one and so I wanted to make it more interesting for her to eat her food.
The first year I decorated her bento lunch, one day she came home looking sad and told me to stop decorating her food. When asked why, she said some kids at school were making fun of her. So I had to have a one on one talk with her. I asked her if she liked the decorations and she replied “Yes!” I told her “As long you like it then it doesn’t matter what other people think and not to let what other people say or do bother you. And that they were probably jealous and sad that their parents didn’t have time to decorate their lunches.” The most important thing I said to her was “You can’t control what people say, but you can only control how you respond to it.” Fast forward to a grade 5’er and she still requests a bento style lunch.
How do you prepare lunch for your kiddos?
