Tip for Plant Lovers

Where are all my plant lovers at? This tip is for you. If you eat rice, you may wash the rice prior to cooking it on the stove top or in your rice cooker. Some people don’t, that’s a different topic altogether. If you do, DON’T throw away the water you wash it with. Save it! Use it to water your plants. Your plants will thank me! 😊 I also heard that you can use it on your skin and hair. But personally I haven’t tried.

The cloudy water that comes out of the rinsed rice has so many nutrients that is beneficial to the plants. Rice water is rich in vitamin A,C, & E, flavanoids and phenolic compounds. In addition, it contains ferulic acid and allantoin, all of which are necessary for skin function IF you want to use it for your skin.

Rice water has very small NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) qualities. So don't use it as a replacement to fertilize your plants. Instead it's the starches that is the key ingredient. It cultures and feeds the beneficial bacteria call Lacto Bacilli that can help feed the good fungi like mycorrhizae. Which in turn feeds the plants roots, making it grow stronger, healthier and more resistant to diseases.
