Condition Your Flowers
Whether you buy your flowers from a floral shop or if you’re gathering flowers from your garden, follow these simple steps to keep them in good shape for a week.
Cut all stems at a 45-degree angle. This prevents stems from sitting flat in the bottom of the vase ensuring maximum water absorption.
Remove any leaves that would sit in the water inside the vase. Leaves rot when they are submerged which will encourage bacterial and fungal growth shortening the life of the blooms.

For cut flowers to survive, they need sugar for nourishment. Store bought flowers usually comes with cut-flower food which provides all the nutrition stems need. If you don’t have, alternatively you can use 1 teaspoon of sugar and add in a few pennies in your vase. Copper is antifungal and antibacterial which helps keep your flowers lasting longer.
Refresh the Water
Check the water level frequently and replenish as needed. Change the water completely every 2-3 days and recut the stems using the method described above.
